About Us

Music in the Regions is an independent touring organisation connecting classical musicians with regional audiences across New South Wales.

Music in the Regions creates greater opportunities for regional audiences to tap into rich cultural experiences close to home and also facilitates unique performance opportunities for emerging and established classical musicians.

We work with community partners to bring musicians off the beaten track for classical music: from churches to golf clubs, railway stations to pubs. With a statewide mandate, we want to bring excellent music to where people live.

Connecting community

More than three million people live in regional NSW, a population that has continued to grow. But only the most enthusiastic among them would say these areas are being served like the city centres.

As they tour, musicians and music companies work with regional conservatoriums and performing arts centres, small business, local enthusiasts, and councils to integrate with communities, energise local musical life and embed cultural activity in the regions.

By creating new audiences, stimulating new conversations, establishing new venues, and supporting the development of regional ambitions, Music in the Regions will reduce the risk for small companies and forever extend the reach of culture throughout Australia.

Embedding music in regional NSW

So here, the Music in the Regions mandate extends even further: to embed cultural activity in the regions, to leave a legacy that endures through the generations, and to evolve beyond the life of the program itself.

As for the next generation, new paths will be revealed as young musicians discover their calling. All these details will be assembled from the inside out to ensure that each note remains in harmony with the character of individual communities. The potential is limited only by imagination.
