Music in the Regions is announcing the resignation of Ian Whitney, General Manager & Producer after 2.5 years. Ian has been with the organisation since the start of touring and has built a strong reputation with key stakeholders of Music in the Regions. After 14 tours, over 60 regional communities, and tens of thousands of kilometres, Ian has decided to hang up his boots. The Board is extremely grateful to Ian for the hard work and dedication he has given to the Company.  Marika Nordquist, currently Associate Producer, will step into the role.
Ian said: “Music in the Regions is a vital organisation for live music in New South Wales and I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short time. On a personal level, I never imagined that I would spend so much time in country towns. Since March 2022, we have worked with over 100 local partner groups. Their hard work, often as volunteers, to improve their local quality of life has been inspiring. As a composer, I’m also thrilled that in 2023 over 40% of our programs were by living Australian composers.”

The Chair of Music in the Regions, Naseema Sparks AM, said: “Ian has been a vital part of the growth of Music in the Regions, he has created a strong brand and engaged with a large number of communities across NSW. The organisation will miss him. I am very happy that our Associate Producer, Marika Nordquist, will be stepping in for the second half of 2024 to deliver our exciting program of tours to the Upper Hunter, the South East, and, in a MitR first, the Northern Rivers.”

Ian will be finishing in mid-July 2024.
