A Personal Note from General Manager & Producer

Marika Nordquist during her final tour with Music in the Region (Alex Raineri’s Fairytales).

I’m writing to you as 2024 draws to a close and Music in the Regions finishes up another year of successful touring. At the end of December, it is also time for me to head off to new adventures and farewell my time at Music in the Regions.

I have been fortunate to be involved in 10 tours, driving thousands of kilometres across spectacular landscapes, visiting communities ranging from Broken Hill to Lismore, Deniliquin to Wolumla and connecting with over 70 community partners. I have loved every bit of this incredible opportunity across the 18 months of my time at Music in the Regions and feel privileged to have been able to be a part of delivering these programs to so many communities.

It has been particularly special to connect with locals and dedicated community groups, often volunteers, who go out of their way to offer their communities events to gather at, along with memorable country hospitality! And of course, it has been fabulous to experience some of Australia’s best live classical music in such a variety of settings.

I would like to thank my predecessor Ian Whitney and my colleague Susan Jackson for a wonderful time as a team, as well as the Music in the Regions Board for their commitment to this organisation. And to the artists, partners, communities and everyone I have had the absolute pleasure to work with – thank you.

With best wishes
